Spinning wheel in motion. Photography by Patti Hayes

Columbia Fiber Arts was created in Columbia, SC by Patti Hayes and Tess Farley. Patti is an experienced weaver, spinner, and knitter. She also enjoys quilting, dollmaking, and photography. Tess has been weaving and spinning for 10 years. She enjoys weaving fabric to sew one of a kind clothing, teaching weaving classes, and weaving commissioned fabric and projects to customer specifications. Our mission is to share our knowledge of these crafts with other fiber enthusiasts while enjoying a spirit of camaraderie.  We both believe that a successful guild can only be achieved through a collaboration of voices and ideas.

Handwoven fabric woven by Tess Farley

Tess Farley has the ability to teach others the fine talent of weaving and spinning, most of all the principles of this craft to spread the word to others and inspire them to take a leap of faith to follow.  Weaving and spinning are an age old craft that shouldn't fall to the wayside.  Tess has taught others how to spin and encourage them to continue.  There are many mediums to spin from  - wool, silk, and flax to man made materials.  It's not just a hobby, but a craft that gives back to the spinner and weaver. I was fortunate to meet Tess in Nebraska.  With her helping hand I have become a better weaver and spinner.  South Carolina is a better place when she is there to teach and encourage others this fine old craft.   It's not your grandmothers hobby any more.  Thank you, Pam Roach, Grand Island, NE

I recently had the pleasure of contacting Tess Farley of Columbia Fiber Arts to work on a weaving project this past summer.  She is totally professional, highly communicative, and meticulous in her detail.  Her craftmanship is superb.  Highly, highly recommended.  Five stars plus.   Kelly Kearse, Knoxville, TN
